1) Briefly describe the factors which
affect organisational design and explain the four approaches in assessing
organisational effectiveness.
Answer :
Although many things can affect the choice of an appropriate structure for an
organization, the following five factors are the most common: size, life cycle,
strategy, environment, and technology.
Organizational size
The larger an organization becomes, the more complicated its structure.
When an organization is small — such as a single retail store, a two‐person
consulting firm, or a restaurant — its structure can be simple.
In reality, if the
organization is very small, it may not
2) Describe and discuss different
perspectives of organisation design and their relevance. Explain different
restructuring strategies.
Answer
: Organization design can be defined narrowly, as the process of reshaping
organization structure and
roles, or it can more effectively be defined as the alignment of structure,
process, rewards, metrics and talent with the strategy of the business. Jay
Galbraith and Amy Kates have made the case persuasively (building on years of
work by Galbraith) that attention to all of these organizational elements is
necessary to create new capabilities to compete in a given market. This
systemic view, often referred to as the "star model" approach, is
more likely to lead to better performance.
3)Describe
and discuss the trends in the present day work organisations and the role of
Management in quality of work life.
Answer : Evolutions of Formal Organizations
Over the past century formal
organizations have evolved immensely in many different ways. Today there are
two basic model types that are used for the structure of an organization and
the models are: the conventional bureaucracy and the open-flexible organization
model. The conventional bureaucracy has many levels in its chain of command and
all individuals must follow the strict rules and regulations that govern this
model type. Orders are passed down by individuals with the most authority while
information is passed backup the chain of command to superiors in each stage.
The open-flexible organization, on the other hand, has fewer levels in its
chain of command, and emphasizes that all employees should share
4)What
is organisational diagnosis? Discuss the importance of it. Briefly discuss
interview as a method for organisational analysis.
Answer : rganisational diagnosis
Organisation is a framework that works
when operated by people. The purpose or mission of an organisation provides the
direction in which it moves. An organisation has several parts each having its
own independent minds and they may not always function in a fully unified way.
An organisation can put itself through periodic check ups or diagnostic
exercises to assess its growth, dynamism, strength, weaknesses etc.
5)What
are the different sources of resistance to change? Discuss with examples.
Describe the process of overcoming resistance to change.
Answer :
It is difficult for organizations to avoid change, as new ideas promote growth
for them and their members. Change occurs for many reasons such as new staff
roles; increases or decreases in funding; acquisition of new technology; new
missions, vision or goals; and to reach new members or clients. Changes can
create new opportunities, but are often met with criticism from resistant
individuals within the group.
